new journal

Sometimes I like to make my own books, sometimes I like them already made.  When I decided that journal writing would be one of my 29 things, I thought it would be wise to make it simple on myself.  So, here is one project checked off of my list that will aid in checking another item later.

HOW TO //  simply take an existing book, select a paper that will cover it, measure the part that will be cover the existing book, adhere (I love these adhesive tape rollers) to the original book and repeat for the back, trim edges as needed, embellish as desired.  Easy!

This project is part of my 29 things before I turn 30 list.
Click here to see all of the projects and other posts related to
the list.  All items listed are a wide array of personal challenges.
I look forward to bettering myself this, my 29th year of life!

Dear Diary,

Today is Dear Diary Day.

To celebrate I will be writing a ton (read: catching up) in my new journal.  Its part of my 29 things list and while I have written a few times each week since I started, I have much more to say today.  So, I'll cozy up with a hot cup of tea and my journal and write my heart away.

beauty at the wall :: a new series

beauty at the wall :: a series of beauty, art and urban nature, as I like to call it
walls don't only contain and limit us, they also move and inspire us

While I miss the natural beauty of mountains, endless sky, green and wildlife at a moment's glance, I have had to find beauty in the jungle around me.  Since I can't live on a farm and work the land, this New York City has become my Cityland.  And, this land has much beauty to offer in its old buildings, streets, shops, and age old cultures that walk around in the form of its people.  I have decided rather than wish I could see and photograph God's beauty, I will enjoy every bit of the rather breathtaking beauty of Man's nature.  This series will be all about this beauty that is ever changing, and never the same again.  I think it qualifies as natural beauty, don't you?  Sure, much is caused on purpose by man but much is cause by time and circumstance.   This beauty speaks to me in the same way that those majestic bits of earth can.  beauty at the wall is beauty to us all, just open your eyes and enjoy!

This bit of beautiful wall was found in my neighborhood.

Grand Central Station

Our friend is seeing the entire city it seems on this visit.  We decided that it would be a good idea to go to Grand Central Station during rush hour.  It was busy as expected.  Zack shot this photo of us standing still amidst the bustling crowd.  Can you find us?  There were so many armed officials standing guard.  But, in such a large place, I felt as though their small-bodied-in-comparison-protection was not as comforting at that scale.  Nevertheless, I was glad to see them there.

This picture will remind me of a good evening, exploring the city.  I am happy to have this image to add to my New York City book.  This place is wild and one of a kind!

a good night at bubby's

This was a good night.  We ate at Bubby's in Tribeca.  There was great food, great company, other loud kids there to drown out the loudness of our Odin boy and entertain him, and in a great part of the city.  Nothing beats spending good time with good people.  It had been too long since we saw them last so, it was great to catch up.  Hopefully we can see them again soon!  wink, wink

walk on : update

We walked a ton today...  13,000 steps to be exact.  That is a record for me.  While my friend is visiting I want to walk a ton.  I decided that I want to walk my daily walk everyday the rest of this month.  It will be fantastic, I just know it.  When the month is over I'm going to go to a yoga class to reward myself.

MY NUMBERS:
*new* this month's goal - 200,000
this month's steps to date -69,933

* Using my pedometer I’ll count each week’s steps.   The goal is to increase each week.  The end result: a happy, healthy, better looking me.  UPDATE: I needed to make a more specific goal and I came up with this:  for the month of September I must reach 200,000 steps.  Here I go!  THE PRIZE: unfortunately I need motivation so If I reach my goal, I get a thrifty mini shopping spree.

NYC book

I am really hoping that we can move away from the city soon.  In anticipation of this future move, whenever it may be, I have started a little NYC book I am calling My Cityland Book.  It is going to be for remembering all of the things in our neighborhood and all the things that I love and will miss about NYC.  I'm hoping to leave out the things that I don't love but I'm sure a few will make the book.  I'll update as I fill it so check back often for more My Cityland posts.

*  I realize a lot of the things I share will be of little interest if you haven't ever visited or lived here but, it will all mean something to me, and that's why I'm excited about this book.

//  Enjoy seeing New York City through my eyes!

eat an apple

Today is International Eat an Apple Day.

To celebrate I am making these apple snack pies.  I have tons of apples so, I hope yo make a bunch to freeze for early morning breakfasts.  That idea inspired by this post.    I would love other favorite apple recipes if you have them.
